News from the Churchwardens, June-July 2016
The majority of the work specified to be undertaken by the 2011 Quinquennial inspection complete, we are about to move into the next five year cycle, and the church architect will be conducting a detailed structural survey this summer.
Parish Room Building Progress
We have been fortunate to have been offered £10,000 from Community First as a Landfill Grant.
All seven trustees have now been appointed as required by the Charity constitution. They are Chris Edwards (chairman), Jonathan Azis, Belinda Lawrie (treasurer) and David Chalmers (secretary) nominated by the PCC, together with Wendy Manister, Caroline Philpott and Philip Wooster.
The contract for the main building work has now been placed with Gary Rogers of Melksham who put in a very competitive price. Approval for the archaeological plan has now been given and tenders will shortly be sought for the groundworks including disabled access.
The Parish Room was cleared on 30th April and all the contents that are reusable have been stored in the Manor barn. We are grateful to Jonathan Azis for allowing us the space and for the many helpers who turned out to sort out and move everything.
This is my (David's) last Churchwardens' report as I have stepped down after a very interesting and busy five years. Paul Slade of Limes Farm Cottage has kindly agreed to take over the reins and was duly elected at the APCM on 23rd April.

News from the Churchwardens,
Two merlons (castellations)
on the north side of the nave have been found to be unsafe and have been
removed. We await the stonemason's estimate for replacing them.
Parish Room Fundraising
and Building Progress
Requests for estimates for
the main building work have been sent to six local contractors and their
responses are required by 23rd March. At that point we will be able
to draw down the £25,000 grant promised to us by the Medlock Trust as well as
the £10,000 landfill grant. These together with the money promised to us by the
National Trust bring our total of funds raised to just over the target of
£150,000. It is a terrific testimony to the faith of the community in the
project that we have achieved this in the 15 months or so since we started
fundraising. However the project manager has made it clear that there will be
many further contingency costs that will arise and so we are not resting from
As we now have the funds to
start work the Parish Room will be closed from 1st May until 1st
March 2017. The last of the
monthly Wednesday Coffee Mornings will be on 6th April. We are
incredibly grateful for the dedication that Viv and Betty Hancock have shown
over many years for managing and maintaining the Room.
