Westwood with Iford School News

Hello again from Westwood school and it's hard to believe that we're at the end of another academic year already. So much has taken place since I last wrote, including a fabulous Sports Day, two nights of first class entertainment from our older children performing Shakespeare Rocks and our Summer Fair. Thank you all so very much for supporting our school once again. We are lucky to live and work within such a wonderful community.

Academically, our Year 2 and Year 6 children have again made us proud with their commitment, hard work and attitude to learning that resulted in their deservedly strong outcomes in their SATs and everyone throughout the school has had so many diverse and exciting learning opportunities this year, it has been a joy to see.

Sadly, we are saying goodbye at the end of term to our wonderful Year 6 children and we wish them all every success in their new schools.

Finally, if you would like to be a governor at our successful school, please contact us via the school website www.westwoodwithiford.org. We would very much welcome additional members to our governing body.

Have a great summer everyone!     Ian Rockey  Head teacher

Westwood with Iford School News

Hello again from Westwood school! We have had another busy few weeks with lots to celebrate and report.

In March, our fantastic gymnasts took part in a West Wilts competition in Melksham and represented our school magnificently.

With the Scarecrow Trail less than two weeks away, please take a look at our new play equipment, gardening area and new pond as you pass through the school grounds. Also, with a Tesco grant for a polytunnel on the way and parents working really hard to assist our gardening club, it really is looking amazing.

I must say a huge well done to our brilliant Year 6 children who took their SATs last week and were a credit to the school. As always they worked incredibly hard and we could not be more proud.

Thank you if you have taken the time to listen in to our radio station, Westwood Radio. Our listener figures are booming and just last Friday Ben Prater from BBC Wiltshire’s Breakfast Show joined our show live! Find out more on radio.westwoodwithiford.org, including all of our shows to listen again.

See you at the Summer Fair on Saturday 8th July!    Ian Rockey    Head Teacher

Westwood Stores and Post Office

Ray and Rita wish to retire and the village store is for sale, unfortunately they are finding it difficult to find successors

If we lose the store everybody will be affected particularly those who shop there but also property prices could be affected

At the September Parish Council Meeting the Council voted to investigate the setting up of a Community lead Stores.

Parish Councillor Paul Phillips is coordinating the initial stages and is seeking comments and observations from villagers and current clients of the store

The new venture will need volunteers for a steering committee who will explore the availability of grants and lottery funding later volunteers will be needed to staff the shop itself

Everyone interested please contact Paul Phillips

Some words about parish room progress...

"Parish Room

Work on the Parish Room is progressing to schedule with the walls of the extension rising fast. It will soon be obvious from the road when part of the Rectory wall is demolished to create the roadside terrace. After discussion with Diocese Estate Manager, passage through the Rectory drive has now to be controlled and the door into the Rectory grounds is locked, with the key available in the church when disabled access is needed. Work to create the permanent disabled access at the church gate will start in mid-October."

Regards, David
