Westwood with Iford School News
Hello again from a very busy Westwood School! Thank you so much to those of you who attended our recent quiz night. It was a delight to see the hall full of members of our community!
Hopefully you will now be aware that out Oral History Project is up and running and has its own website - westwoodheritage.uk There you will find a fascinating interview with David and Kate Windo about growing up in Westwood. There is also the opportunity to view some old photographs of Kate’s from school days gone by - are you in there anywhere? Plus you can tell us your story or get in touch if you would like to contribute to the project. We will be coming out into the community and even broadcasting live as well, so do keep an eye on our website, our blog heritage.westwoodblogs.org and our Twitter feed @wwiheritage as there will be so much to share over the coming months. With signs of Spring in the air, we are all looking forward to another wonderful term with lots of community involvement.

We have been lucky enough to receive a grant from the Heritage Lottery
Fund (HLF) for an exciting project, Westwood Heritage Oral History Project,
taking place in and around the Westwood Community. Made possible by money
raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on using the children’s
interviewing and broadcasting skills to capture precious memories from members
of the community that we can share with future generations. We will also be
holding larger groups sessions where we will broadcast Westwood Radio live from
the venue, so anyone with historic photos or artefacts will be most welcome.
We will be holding a ‘Mince Pies and Memories’ launch meeting on Thursday

Residents will remember that back in August last year
B&NES resurfaced this path through the particularly muddy section where
Avoncliff Wood comes down to the river. This work has been greatly appreciated
by the many people who walk along this attractive stretch (at least as far as
the Wiltshire border, where deep mud is again a difficulty in wet weather).
Now, though, there is a further problem with the river bank
alongside the newly resurfaced section, which is being eroded by dogs
scrambling in and out of the water. The B&NES Public Right of Way Team -
which is doing great work for us - is on the case and has applied to the
Environment Agency to install gabion baskets to stabilise the bank.
Until approval comes through, the vulnerable sections have
been taped off and dog owners are asked please to stop your dog going in to the
water at these points. If someone else walks your dog, we would be grateful if
you would pass this message on.Article published: 27 Jan 2017

Westwood Nursery School
Since Easter we have welcomed 5 new families to the nursery who have moved into the village.
This term we have tied in our planning to link into the Scarecrow Hunt theme- Stories. The children have done a number treasure hunt in the park with chocolate in the treasure box when number 9 was found- Zigby’s Treasure Hunt. Little Red Riding Hood week was Safety week and there will be lots of assault courses for ‘Going on the Bear Hunt’ week. The better weather has seen us making the most of our outside space which we are hoping to further improve with money raised from the Easter egg hunt, jumble sale and scarecrow trail.
We would like to take this opportunity to THANK all the villagers who donated items to the jumble sale we raised an incredible £631.90 Also THANK YOU for the Sainsbury’s vouchers.
We will bid farewell to 13 children this summer - 7 children will be going to Westwood with Iford School and the others attending schools in Bradford-on-Avon, Wingfield and Trowbridge Article published: 30 May 2016
