A very Happy New Year from us all at Westwood School!
We are now settled back into the new term and already the children are immersed
in fascinating topics. You can find out more of what we are enjoying learning
from our class blogs which can be found at westwoodblogs.org.
Our radio station, Westwood Radio, is going from strength to
strength. Broadcasting every Friday online at 2.30pm on radio.westwoodwithiford.org with all the latest school and
community news. Please contact us if you have an item you would like us to
Are you a gardener who would be happy to share your skills and
volunteer some time? If so, we would love to hear from you, please, as our
gardening club are looking for community members to assist them in their after
school club once a week to develop their growing gardening area. Please contact
the school on email@example.com or call 862408.
And finally, watch out for the darts stars of the future as we
have started our own lunchtime darts club. Combining mental maths with learning
a new sport, the children are already showing real skill on the oche!

scarecrows are back!
We are starting to plan for this year’s scarecrow trail
taking place in May half term (Sat 27 May to Sun 4 June). This annual
event is great fun and raises much needed funds for Westwood with Iford School
and Westwood Nursery. We will be deciding on this year’s theme in
February and will let everyone know via posters around the village. You
can like us on facebook (westwoodscarecrowtrail) or follow us on Twitter
(@wwscarecrow) to find out too. As ever, to make the trail a success, we
need people to make scarecrows and / or to host scarecrows in gardens
along the route. If you are willing, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. This year,
we would also be really grateful to anyone who might help us with organising
the trail more generally (putting up posters, arranging advertising, sorting
signage etc.) We are a really friendly group meeting every few weeks
between now and the trail. New members very welcome indeed, so do let us
know by email if you’d like to get involved.
Thanks in advance for your help and
support in 2017!

Another busy and exciting few weeks have passed at Westwood
with Iford School and our run up to Christmas is about to begin. Please join us
for our Christmas Fair on Saturday 3rd December at school. There will be plenty
of festive cheer to get you in the Christmas mood.
If you haven’t yet tuned in, Westwood Radio - radio.westwoodwithiford.org has
successfully launched and broadcasts live every Friday in term time at 2.30pm.
With weekly community news and interviews, there is something for everyone.
This issue we are also asking whether any members of our
fantastic community are interested in joining our school Governing Body. As a
successful, innovative school, we are looking for additional governors to
expand our successful Governing Body, in order to fully support and oversee the
school as it continues to move forward with clear vision and direction.
We meet once a term and would very much welcome new members. If
you are interested, we would be delighted to give you more information and you
can contact our Chair, Sean Wyartt by email at email@example.com
or the school office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a great Christmas!

Some words about parish room progress...
Work on the Parish Room is progressing to schedule with the walls of the extension rising fast. It will soon be obvious from the road when part of the Rectory wall is demolished to create the roadside terrace. After discussion with Diocese Estate Manager, passage through the Rectory drive has now to be controlled and the door into the Rectory grounds is locked, with the key available in the church when disabled access is needed. Work to create the permanent disabled access at the church gate will start in mid-October."
